Trusted Power Brake Service
What Are Power Brakes?
Power brakes use a booster to multiply the force you apply at the pedal. On most petrol engines the booster runs on vacuum from the inlet manifold. On diesels and many turbo engines it runs off a dedicated vacuum pump. Either way, when the assist fails the brakes still work, they just need far more effort to do the same job.
For power brakes Adelaide drivers rely on, we inspect the booster and the whole assist system, identify the fault clearly, and recommend the right repair so braking feels light and dependable again.

Why Power Brakes Matter
What Your Power Brake System Supports
A healthy power brake system keeps pedal effort light and braking safe and predictable every day.

Our Power Brake Services
Power Brake Services We Provide in Adelaide
We inspect and repair power-assisted braking systems for passenger vehicles, utes and light commercial vehicles.
A hard pedal is not always the booster. Sometimes it traces back to the master cylinder or to worn friction material, which is covered on our brake repairs page. We check the whole system before recommending anything.
Common Power Brake Faults
Common Power Brake System Faults
A hard pedal is the symptom. These six are the causes we find behind it. Most power brakes Adelaide jobs come down to one of them, and which one decides whether the repair is a hose, a valve or a booster, so it is worth diagnosing rather than replacing parts hopefully.
Perished Booster Diaphragm
The rubber diaphragm inside the brake booster perishes with age and heat. Once it splits, all the assist is gone and the brake pedal turns hard.
Split Vacuum Hose
The hose feeding vacuum to the booster hardens and cracks over time. A split usually brings a hiss under braking and a noticeably heavier pedal.
Failed Check Valve
The one-way valve holds vacuum in the booster between engine cycles. When it fails, assist drops off after the first press and does not recover.
Leaking Master Cylinder
A master cylinder leaking past its internal seals gives a pedal that slowly sinks under steady pressure, even with the fluid level looking fine.
Vacuum Pump Failure
Diesels and many turbo engines run a vacuum pump instead of manifold vacuum. As that pump wears, assist fades and the pedal firms up.
Restricted Vacuum Supply
Carbon build-up, a collapsed hose or a blocked fitting can choke the vacuum supply, so the assist turns weak or patchy rather than fully absent.

Common Warning Signs
Signs Your Power Brakes May Need Attention
Power brake faults can develop gradually, but changes in pedal feel or effort should not be ignored.
A pedal that has changed feel is not something to wait on. If you are also hearing noise from the brakes themselves, our guide on what causes brake noise covers which sounds mean stop driving.
ABS Diagnosis
Expert ABS System Diagnosis and Repair
Power assist and ABS are separate systems that share the same hydraulics, which is why the two get confused. The booster reduces how hard you press. ABS stops the wheels locking once you have pressed.
They do overlap in practice. An ABS warning light alongside a change in pedal feel can point to the ABS module or pump rather than the booster, and a fault in one can mask a fault in the other. So when a pedal complaint comes in with a warning light showing, we scan the ABS system as part of the diagnosis rather than treating them separately.
If the fault turns out to sit with ABS rather than the booster, our ABS systems page sets out that work in full.

Safety & Performance
A Healthy Power Brake System Supports Safer Driving
Your power brake system does more than lighten the pedal. It supports responsive, predictable braking in everyday driving, which matters most when you need to stop quickly.
Keeping the booster and assist system in good condition helps identify faults early, restore braking confidence and support better overall vehicle safety. Assist is also checked as part of a standard car service.
